THE SOLUTION

The Solution

To address these issues is where MCCT comes in - with passion and will to bridge this gap. MCCT (Mother & Child Care Trust) is a Non-Profit Trust established in 2004 by a group of philanthropists and volunteers from Karachi. It initially targeted a defined slum are of Urban Karachi (Bilal Colony), but soon expanded its objective to other poorly developed areas of Pakistan such as rural Sindh and various other similar locations where mothers and children were in desperate need of healthcare and related education. MCCT is involved in a range of presently located in the underprivileged area of Bilal Colony in Korangi, Karachi. Additionally, the women are also taught the basics in sanitation and hygiene, in order to due to educate them towards better health. However, MCCT operations are not limited to Bilal Colony, on several occasions and major disasters MCCT has lent a helping hand, such as:

The Earthquake � 2005
Balochistan Floods,
IDP displacement (by giving support to various organizations)

Lastly, another vital part of MCCT is Research & Development and philanthropic activities It is mainly community based research in areas including like Rahim Yar Khan in collaboration with several academic organizations such as:

Aga Khan University (AKU)
Unicef
Johns Hopkins University
Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto

The Main areas in focus of the research are:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Malnutrition
  • Newborn Infections
  • Vaccine Preventable Disorder

Daily Services Rendered:

  • Free Daily Paeds OPD patients 200 to 250.
  • Free Medicines provided to patients.
  • Free Daily Gynae OPD patients 35 to 50

MCCT has provided public health service on a large scale by training women at the grass root level. Training them to deal with maternal problem (midwives), take care of newborn babies, basic sanitation and hygiene for the mother and child and preventive care by proper communication and vaccination services.
